Demonstration at MidVAlley Shopping Mall

The demonstration was held last Sunday, 26 September at Mid Valley Mega Mall with the conjunction of  The Expatriate Week. We were invited by a friend, Cikgu Mazlin from Marvellous Martial Art, through our KL/Selangor Chairman, Cikgu Din Misai. A total of more than 10 students and 4 cikgu participated in the demonstration from various gelanggang ( Gombak, Kelana Jaya, Kapar, Selayang and USJ ). We have prepared all the fliers and banner for display that day. We have the support, guidance and blessing of our YDP Haji Muhammed Hasyim Bin Haji Salleh. We were the 3rd team to display our silat after the Akido team.  Most of the audience that came to watch  were  shoppers and people from the exhibiting booths next door. The one thing that made me smile that morning was to see Cikgu Din complaining me that the student s and even the cikgu ( Guru ) were not up and ready to prepare themselves. All of them ( especially the kids ) and even the audience was mesmerized  by the first performer, the “Belly Dancers “….well what can I say.

For your information there were no preparation or training prior to this event or any such demo for us in Lian Padukan. All these years, we just do what we are trained for and just purely skill…hahaha. After all, it is “buah pukul” or in other words ‘the art of bashing’. If our partner  is still standing then you have beat  him down. Simple as that !

Lian Padukan demo trip has always been a family affair with our wives and kids, girl friends, and friends joining in to support each other. We see father or son or both performing the demo. Just the present of your loves ones beside you and supporting you are the best. As for me, I want to give the chance to my kids especially, my students and others  ( both the boys are in Lian ) to gain as much experience in demonstration  and  thus develop his confidence, composure and skill in front of large audience.

In my early days of  Lian Padukan, together with Cikgu Azhar, Cikgu Aimi, Cikgu Raziman and Cikgu Wana and “Demo Expert” Cikgu Din Misai we performed demonstration in weddings, family days, Schools, dinner event in university, Tabung Haji and many others. Our trade-mark will be our bandana ( head cover ), a gift token by Cikgu Din. I can still remember those happy and nervous  moments before a show.

Picture above was taken in 2007 ( notice the bandana ).

One thing that we ( cikgu-cikgu ) noticed and discussed  was that, we must do something about our demonstration performance, especially in terms of a proper demo syllabus and having to choose a quality invitations.  Besides having fun in doing what we love and giving exposure to the students, we also want to have an impact to the audience. How does the demo effect the audience? Will it make Lian Padukan popular? Is the demo worth it? These questions need to be discuss carefully.  At the end of the day, we want people to know and join this offensive art of fighting,  Lian Padukan. It is time to sit down and discuss what are the best ways to present our Lian. We know how to fight and beat the hell out of our partner but then the audience might not understand it. They might not also see our technique clearly since our hands and leg move swiftly and rapidly.

We need to change also because our gelanggang are growing all over Malaysia, our students are growing, demand to open up new gelanggang  and our new “khatam” ( graduated ) students are increasing from time to time. And so Lian Padukan DEMONSTRATION in future is inevitable, whether we like it or not.

Lastly, on behalf of the academy, I would like to thank our  Yang DiPertua Haji Mohammed Hasyim Bin Hj Salleh that is always guide and support us ( KL/Selangor Lian Padukan ) in our effort to promote the art of Lian Padukan. Also thank to our chairman in KL/Selangor, Cikgu Din Misai @ Pakar Demo, Cikgu Faizal for his contribution with the bunting, Cikgu Wana Srikandi, Cikgu Hasimpul the ‘cameraman’ and cikgu Raziman @ chef. Not forgetting all those that came that day for your support and commitment to Lian Padukan.

New Poetry from the Grandmaster Haji Mohammed Hasyim.

TEKPI BUKAN SEBARANG TEKPI,
TEKPI LP TEMBAGA KEBANYAKKAN NYA,
BERANI BUKAN SEBARANG BERANI,
KECUALI KENA DENGAN CARANYA.

LEBAH BUKAN SEBARANG LEBAH,
LEBAH SABAH BANYAK KHASIATNYA,
SEMBAH BUKAN SEBARANG SEMBAH
SEMBAH BA’AIAH DENGAN TAATNYA.

DURIAN BUKAN SEBARANG DURIAN,
DURIANSELATAN ENAK RASANYA,
LIAN BUKAN SEBARANG LIAN,
LIAN PADUKAN BANYAK RAHSIANYA.

LEPAT DI ALAS SI DAUN PALAS,
BUAT JAMUAN DI PAGI RAYA,
APA YANG DIBUAT MESTILAH IKHLAS,
BARULAH HATI MENJADI CERIA.
